On the way back to Atlanta on Saturday, we were driving on a two lane road and passed a small sign for the highest point in Florida. We weren't in too much of a hurry so I suggested we turn around and see how far it was. I'd never known where it was before, and since it was Florida, figured it couldn't be too high. Well we drove a few miles and saw signs for a park at the highest point. Figuring we might have to hike to it, we decided we would go if it was a short distance. As we pulled into the small lot, I scanned for a trail and then noticed a small monument. We laughed realizing that was actually it, we could see it from the car. Here are a few pictures of our big adventure.
Our friend Mike and his dad are high-pointers, people that try to get to the highest point in every state (or something like that). They've gotten to see some much more exciting high points, like on the tops of mountains and such. I feel that the one in Florida would be quite a disappointment to someone with those high goals!
As we continued down the same road, we passed through the small town of Luverne, AL. I was driving and as we exited the town, I saw the side of the building that made me do a second take. I turned the car around because if it was what I thought it was, I had to get a picture.

Indeed I was correct, it was the Sister Schubert factory! My family has loved their yeast rolls (and cinnamon rolls - yum!) for many years now. My great-grandmother Mimi used to make amazing rolls from scratch. She would have flour all over the whole kitchen before she was finished and it was so fun to smell them baking. After she passed away, nobody had the recipe (as I don't think there was one) and we couldn't replicate the rolls. That was when we discovered Sister Schubert. Theirs are the closest we've found and always remind me of her when I eat them. It is fun how certain foods can transport you to a different place!

This made me smile... so glad you're having fun.
Mmmm, those Sister Schuberts ARE amazing.
Hey now, don't forget Mike's wife who has a few knotches in her high-pointers belt herself. :) I've been drug, I mean, er, run up mountains willingly in quest of yet another high point.
Love it! Great story about your Mimi. Made me smile.
