Tennis

I was talking with my friend Seth at community group several weeks ago and we found out that we both play tennis. I mentioned that I hadn't played in quite some time as several of the people I used to play with regularly had either moved away or didn't have a desire to play much any more. He told me that they were starting up a mini league within the church of 16 people to play singles and doubles and that they still needed a few people. I was so excited to think about starting to play more regularly, finding more people that enjoy playing, as well as nervous as I usually just get out and hit with people, and don't play actual matches, both singles and doubles!

The league started a few weeks ago and my first match was horrendous. I realized I may have over-ranked myself, remembering how I used to play, rather than how I would begin playing after being absent for so long. Thankfully the match was over pretty quickly, I was so frustrated that my serves were not able to go in at all. I didn't even have a chance on this one. He recognized that I was really rusty and wants to play again this summer, which I think would be great. The next match was doubles and it was a lot of fun. I haven't played doubles in a long time, especially not with 3 people who play often. Thankfully my serves started to return (plus you don't have to serve as often, I was loving that!). I also felt my game improving as I was hitting better and even being aggressive at the net. I hit a couple of winners and was the only person to ace anyone, and I did it 5 or 6 times! It felt great. That was on Tuesday and on Thursday, I played a singles match with one of the same guys. It was somewhat closer than the first singles match, but I still lost pretty bad. I came off of the doubles match feeling like I could put up a good fight, but I think that playing two matches so close together was not good for me, I was so sore and exhausted! All in all, it was still fun and I know where I need to work on things.

There are a few more matches left, but I'm already excited to have found some new friends at church that would be willing to get out there and hit sometimes.
