Boondoggle

For nine consecutive years, four of my college roommates and I have taken a weekend to enjoy reconnecting with each other, since we live in three different states now. It has always been a fun time to remember things that happened in college, make fun of the guys that we know so well, and marvel at what God is doing in each of our lives, through both good times and bad. This weekend was supposed to be our 10th Boondoggle, but for the first time, we were unable to pull it off. I will say I am pretty disappointed as I look forward to the time each year. Scheduling something like this is pretty complicated with just us, but when there are 10 kids and 2 on the way between the 5 of us, it makes getting away even more complicated.

I love living in Atlanta, but it is a transitional place for a lot of people and several of the good friends I have made here have moved on to other places and keeping in touch is difficult. I'm thankful for the handful of Godly men that I do have as friends now, but as I mentioned a while ago, switching churches and feeling unsettled has left me lacking in relationships with guys who really know me. I was so looking forward to being with friends where it is easy to get along and pick up where we left off, as though not much time has passed. Hopefully this year will just be a blip rather than the new normal. Nine years was a pretty good run in my opinion!

Wow - nine years! I'm so impressed. My girlfriends and I have only been hit or miss - other than weddings, I think we've only been all together once actually since college. Hoping for your sake that this year was just an exception to the rule because I know how precious that time is. I feel ya on the Atlanta transitional stuff too. I've found the last few years to be really hard with connecting with a few people only to have them move. Boo!
